Taitaja national skills competition is a concept developed by Skills Finland ry. The association oversees the implementation of the event concept and provides guidance for organising the competition. The responsibility for organising the event is granted to a different vocational education provider each year, which receives the right to organise the competition from Skills Finland. The Ministry of Education and Culture provides financial support for the organisation of the event.

The Taitaja2026 Uusimaa competition will be primarily organised by Keuda, with numerous partner organisations and companies contributing as collaborators

Skills Finland

Skills Finland helps to raise the profile of the Finnish vocational education and skills and increase their appreciation both in Finland and abroad. The non-profit association, founded in 1993, works together with partners who share similar values and goals and have an interest in promoting vocational education. Skills Finland’s members and supporters include the Ministry of Education and Culture, the National Board of Education, vocational institutions and the most important labour and education organisations.

The national Taitaja competition, held each year, attracts the most attention towards the association’s activities. Taitaja competitions are held on a rotation in different parts of Finland each year. The competitions are organised by local education providers with their partners.

Skills Finland and its partners train and send the Finnish national team to the international WorldSkills and EuroSkills. These take place biannually, alternating turns with each other. Skills Finland also sends a team to Abilympics competition which is a Skills competition for students with special needs, held every four years.

We have developed a wide network of international operators and experts to promote the internalisation of vocational secondary education. The Skills competitions and training for them support this objective

Finnish students selected to international Skills competitions are those who have been the most successful ones in training. Competitors to international skills competitions are selected in Finland’s national skills competition Taitaja. Companies and vocational colleges can also send their own representatives.  The final selection will be through trial competitions.

Steering group

The steering group will decide on the formation of the competition organisation, the resources required from education providers during the competition process, the overall communication and marketing concept, and financial matters during the project.

The members of the steering group will be announced in spring 2025.

Regional Cooperation Group

The regional cooperation group for the Taitaja2026 event consists of both regional and national stakeholders. Its role is to establish general guidelines for organising the event. The group’s members contribute to the development of skills competitions and promote the significance of competition activities and vocational education needs within their respective organisations. Additionally, the group plays a key role in shaping the public image of the event and developing effective collaboration networks.

The regional cooperation group will be established in autumn 2025 and will meet 2–3 times a year. During its first meeting, the group will elect a chairperson from among its members. The meetings will be presented by competition director Hanna Nyrönen, with the competition assistant serving as secretary.
